Vertical forms rise from a darkened ground, their surfaces eaten by rust and time, while fire — or something that remembers fire — surges behind them in amber and burnt orange. Wax drops scatter across the field like nails driven into the surface, each one a small wound, a mark of what has been withstood. At the base, a gold thread holds the edge together, and pressed into the darkness below it, star anise, an ancient symbol of protection and prosperity, placed like an offering inside the ruin.
